New IRP Requirements from NJMVC

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) has recently updated its International Registration Plan (IRP) requirements, and this change affects all carriers with IRP-registered trucks, including towing companies.

Under the new requirement, businesses must now provide proof of an established place of business when applying for or renewing IRP registrations. Many members have already encountered this requirement during recent heavy truck renewals, and it is important to note that this applies regardless of how long your business has been operating.

What This Means for Carriers

  • All IRP carriers must demonstrate that they maintain a legitimate, established business location

  • This requirement applies to new applications and renewals

  • Longevity in business does not exempt carriers from compliance

If you operate IRP-registered vehicles, we strongly encourage you to review the documentation requirements carefully and prepare the necessary proof in advance to avoid delays in registration or renewal.
